In 2021, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) unveiled its latest architectural marvel, the Shaw Auditorium.

Designed by Henning Larsen Architects and Wong Tung and Partners, this venue stands out not just for its striking elliptical form but also for its sustainable features, achieving a BEAM Platinum certification. A key contributor to its sustainable edge is our factory, which supplied engineered bamboo for the building’s façade and acoustic panels. This choice underscores the commitment to eco-friendly building solutions without sacrificing aesthetic value or functionality. The Shaw Auditorium incorporates several green technologies, including a district cooling system, photovoltaic panels, and a smart ventilation system, all designed to respond to Hong Kong’s humid climate effectively. The use of bamboo enhances the auditorium’s sustainability, aligning with House of Bamboo’s mission to promote environmentally responsible materials in modern architecture.
